It might not be snowing in Houma, but Christmas is definitely in the air. Your neighbors are putting up Christmas lights, and you’re starting to get your Christmas decorations out of the attic. Put that chore on hold for a bit so you can go to the Polar Express Outdoor Movie Night on Dec. 1 and the Houma Downtown Christmas Festival on Dec. 2. Both events take place on Courthouse Square, and neither one costs a thing. That means you don’t have to dip into your Christmas money to have a good time in Houma.
Polar Express Outdoor Movie Night
Let’s see…. It’s a great movie, it’s free, and it’s outdoors. That is sure to equal a good time. The movie is hosted by the Houma Downtown Christmas Festival, and the organizers will have boxcars out on the Courthouse Square. The movie starts at 6:30 p.m., but you should get there early so your kids can grab a boxcar. You’ll also want to bring a chair and a blanket along with you.
It might be free, but your kids will get some goodies. Kids just need to walk up to the ticket window to get some Polar Express swag to take home.
Houma Downtown Christmas Festival
You might stay out a bit late when you attend the outdoor movie, but get up early enough the next day to go to the Houma Downtown Christmas Festival at 11 a.m. The festival runs until 5 p.m. and is followed by a parade. The festival will be full of music, arts, and crafts plus lots of food. It’s free, so it’s definitely worth stopping by.
The parade follows at 5 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 p.m. It starts next to Terrebonne High School, and it will stop off at Courthouse Square to drop off Santa and Mrs. Claus. They need to get back for the tree lighting and meet and greet at 7:30 p.m.
