Need a little color in your life? Then you need to sign up for the 3rd Annual Paint the Town 5k fun color run. Racers will take off from 103 Valhi Boulevard in Houma at 5 p.m. on March 30. It’s $35 to sign up as long as you register by March 29. Prices go up on March 30. If you don’t register until then, get to the event by 4:30 p.m. to sign up.
Is this going to be your first color run? Here’s what you need to know.
How It Works
The organizers set up color stations along the 5k route. Whenever you pass a station, volunteers throw packets of color on you. The colors stick to your body and clothing, creating a color explosion. You even get a color packet when you finish. Use that to give yourself that final coating of color so everyone will know you were a beast on the color run.
Wear White
You want the color to stand out during the race, so wear as much white as possible. Most runners wear white T-shirts, but you can take it even further by wearing white socks and shorts. The more white you wear, the easier it will be to see the color.
Take a Before and After Photo
You will want to see the transformation that occurs during the color run. Take a before picture right before you take off and then an after picture when you finish. Those pictures will be fun mementos of your day on the course.

Save Your Shirt
When the race is over, take off the white T-shirt and place it in a bag. Take it home and put it on a flat surface. Put white vinegar in a spray bottle and soak the shirt. Leave it on the flat surface until it’s dry. Then, put a towel over it and iron it so the color sets in. Turn it inside out and throw it in the dryer for about 10 minutes to make sure the color really sticks.
After you do that, you can wash it and wear it anywhere. Just be prepared to talk about your color run when you do. It’ll be a real conversation starter.
You’re going to laugh the afternoon away when you attend the color run. You’ll feel amped up and ready to go somewhere else. That’s no problem when you have a new Buick or GMC. Your new ride will be ready to take you all around town. Stop by Barker Buick GMC in Houma, Louisiana, and get your new wheels in time for the color run.
