U2: The Joshua Tree Tour in New Orleans, LA

The Joshua Tree Tour U2

Good things come to those who wait. But for New Orleans-area U2 fans, the wait is over. For the first time in 20 years, the band will visit the city to play a full-length concert at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in September.

Times and Tickets

On Thursday, September 14, U2 will perform at the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome as part of the Joshua Tree album tour. This previously unplanned stop in New Orleans is part of a 30th-anniversary tour celebrating the release of the Joshua Tree album. Tickets are available for purchase online and range from $35–$1,100 depending on seating. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and features Beck as the opening act. Beck is an American singer/songwriter you may know from winning the 2015 Album of the Year Grammy Award. His single “Wow” was featured on a popular car commercial this summer. Don’t wait to get your tickets – after the New Orleans stop, U2 visits Missouri, Arizona, California, and then heads to Mexico to finish the tour outside of the US.

The Joshua Tree Album

U2’s latest tour marks the celebration of the Joshua Tree album, the group’s fifth studio collection. As an Irish band, the group went beyond its roots and used the United States as a theme for the album, being inspired by American tours, literature, and politics. The album topped the charts in more than 20 countries and became the fastest-selling album in British history. The group’s only number-one singles in the US also came from this album – “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” To celebrate the revival, Interscope Records released 30th-anniversary editions of The Joshua Tree album this summer. This year’s tour also marks the first time The Joshua Tree will visit New Orleans. In 1987, U2 played at the LSU Assembly Center in Baton Rouge as part of the original album tour, but that was as close as they got to New Orleans.

Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Balcony seating is reserved for this event, and general admission floor tickets are standing room only. Either way you go, it’s a good idea to arrive early to make sure you have time to park, find your seat, and grab any food and drinks you may want before the show. You can find parking garages and surface lots adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the Smoothie King Center. Just remember that overnight parking is prohibited, so consider taking an Uber if you plan on drinking. The parking garages are cash-only, so stop by the ATM before you arrive.
