Prepare Your Wardrobe For Fall

Fall is approaching quickly, and cooler temperatures are on the way. And new fall styles will arrive with brisk breezes and changing leaves. If you haven’t updated your wardrobe, it might be time to go through your closet. Prepare your wardrobe for the fall by bringing out some basics and adding key, stylish elements.

Begin With the Basics

If it’s a suede bag, it must be the fall season. Soft, simple, and structured suede purses in soft taupe, tans, and browns are perfect for autumn. In addition, a fall basic you’ll see often is the chunky knit sweater, but this year you’ll see it oversized and cropped. Of course, ankle booties are also likely to be everywhere. And denim never goes out of style. Thus, you’ll see a lot of high-waisted, straight-legged fits and jean skirts this fall.

Shoes With a Presence

Ankle booties aren’t the only footwear taking over fall this year. Believe it or not, chunky clogs are back again. First, they became part of the 70s style statement. Then, in the 90s, they got an update. Now, chunky clogs are everywhere, in every color you can think of. And another 90s footwear favorite is back. You’ll likely see statement loafers with long, asymmetrical skirts or cropped jeans.

Denim With Details

Denim is always in style, but many people are putting a twist on this old standby with interesting cutouts, uneven hems, patches, and fresh fits. In fact, a looser fit has been in for some time and will likely continue through fall and into winter. For example, mom jeans and girlfriend jeans are two fits that have gained popularity in multiple age groups. And baggy, wide-legged jeans are making a comeback for men.

The Button-down Shirt

Button-down shirts will be a big fall staple for both men and women. Many people are styling them with a fitted blazer and over jeans to keep the look from feeling too formal. Another way to style a button-down is to choose an oversized version and pair it with a chemise, bandeau, or a fitted t-shirt.

Cargo Pants Are Back

You were wrong if you thought this was a trend that would stay in the late 90s and early 2000s. Cargo pants, shorts, and skirts are all back in a big way. Women pair wide-legged cargo pants fitted at the waist with tight, cropped shirts or tank tops. In addition, some younger people have been spotted wearing parachute pants, the rave-going cousin of cargo pants.

New and Old Comforts

With the changing season comes a change in fashion. Styles from yesteryear are back this fall, with a few new tweaks. But comfort and classic cuts are always fall winners. So look at your closet and swap out the summer gear for longer sleeves, layers, and clothes that feel good. Don’t be afraid to translate some of those changes to your wardrobe.
