If you haven’t grown up or lived in Louisiana for a while, you may not know what a rougarou is. It’s basically a werewolf that parents talk about to keep their kids in line. The rougarou is of French descent, which makes it right at home in the bayou.
Rougarou Fest 2017 may sound like it’s too scary for kids, but don’t worry. This is a family-friendly event with just a bit of spookiness to make it fun. And, better yet, all of the proceeds go to the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center, which is a nonprofit organization that works to educate and conserve the disappearing Louisiana coast. Not only will you get to have fun at the festival, but you’ll also get to learn more about your natural environment and support a great cause, something everybody can get behind.
Festival Details
This is a two-day festival, so you will have time to do and see it all. It begins on Saturday, October 21, at 10 a.m. and will stay open until 10 p.m. The next day, the festival will start up again at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
While you’re there, you will have an opportunity to participate in a plethora of events and activities. Everyone gets hungry, so you’ll be glad to find a wide variety food available at the festival. This ranges from hot dogs to beignets, so there’s sure to be something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. You will also be able to purchase water, soda, and adult beverages.
The Minnow Trap is the best area for kids, and there’s a lot to check out here. Most events only cost $1, so it’s relatively affordable. There will be a Frisbee throw, a beanbag toss, bobbing for apple snails, and so much more. If you have little ones, be sure to bring them along.
For older kids, make sure to check out the carnival rides. These rides will open up on the Friday before the festival, and that is the only time you will be able to buy an unlimited pass for carnival rides. If that’s something that interests you, make sure you get there early to buy one.
There’s so much more to check out at Rougarou Fest 2017, including a parade and a costume contest. Come see for yourself!
The rougarou might be scary, but that doesn’t mean buying a car has to be. Come to Barker Buick GMC in Houma, Louisiana, for the best deals on Buicks and GMCs around.
