You can take a tour of the Wetlands Cultural Byway to see the various towns and villages that make up the wetland region. Bayou Lafourche Area
Start your tour of the wetlands in Raceland. As you drive along the byway, think about the English, German, Spanish, and French settlers who called this bayou home generations ago. You will pass tugboats, shrimpers, shipyards, and more. Stop by the Bayou Lafourche Folklife and Heritage Museum in Lockport to learn about the area’s culture. Also, you’ll want to stop by one of local Cajun restaurants along the road. Choose one and grab a bite to eat before you move on to the next leg of the tour.
Bayou Terrebonne Area
The Bayou Terrebonne Area is right in your own backyard. It starts in Houma and goes all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Pay attention to the lakes and marshes, and stop by a café that offers the catch of the day. You’ll also want to stop by LUMCON during your drive. You can see an assortment of marine life and also gaze out at the marshland from the observation tower.

Houma to Thibodaux
You can also drive along the stretch that runs from Houma to Thibodaux. Just head north on Highway 24, and you’ll be treated to lots of interesting sights. Make time to stop in Kraemer during your drive. This is the best spot for a swamp tour. You’ll see alligators, snakes, turtles, and more during your tour. You’ll also want to stop by the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Don’t be surprised if you end up spending a couple hours at the state park.
