Tuesdays can be hard. The buzz of the weekend has worn off, you’re still recovering from that manic Monday, and it’s not even hump day yet. Houma’s Downtown Live After 5 is here to help.
Who’s Live After 5?
Visit the Courthouse Square in downtown Houma, LA the last Tuesday in September for a FREE evening of local, live music. September 29, Blue Eyed Soul Revue will play from 7 p.m.–10 p.m. But you don’t have to wait that late to come unwind. The show’s opening act takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., so come by after work to make sure you’ve got a front-stage spot. The event includes live music, vendors, food, drinks, and entertainment. Other acts this summer have featured bands like SheauxDown, Bandit, and Nashville South. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for comfortable seating during and before the event.
Blue Eyed Soul Revue
A band with more than 30 years of playing under its belt is sure to guarantee a good show. Seven-member cover band Blue Eyed Soul Revue celebrated three decades of soul and R&B in October 2013. “Blue eyed soul” is a term coined in the ’60s that refers to white performers covering songs by black artists, typically ’60s and ’70s soul and rhythm and blues. While Blye Eyed Soul Revue began this way, the group has now moved to covering songs by modern-day artists like Adele, Cee Lo Green, and Bruno Mars. The group is based in Houma and has played at area festivals like Jazz Fest and even collaborated with New Orleans singer Ernie K-Doe in 1988. In addition to upgrading its repertoire with some of today’s hits, the group added a female vocalist 18 years ago to help reach a new dynamic and range in songs.
A Concert With A Cause
When you hear there’s a free concert, most people don’t question why. It’s free music, after all. But, Live After 5 isn’t just about no-charge entertainment. The non-profit organization has existed since August 2002. Its mission is to help downtown Houma attract visitors and locals to try out the area’s shops, restaurants, and nighttime entertainment. The outdoor concert season runs from March–September each year. After the the event’s operating expenses are paid, all remaining revenue goes toward downtown advertising, refreshing banners along Main and Barrow Streets, and sponsoring other local events in the downtown Houma area. When you support Live After 5, you’re doing more than just unwinding on a Tuesday.
