Enjoy Food, Music, And More At The Voice Of The Wetlands Festival

Wetlands Festival

Wetlands Festival

Tab Benoit is as much a part of Houma as gumbo and the Rougarou. He loves his home city and state, so it’s no wonder he felt a sense of alarm when he flew over it more than ten years ago and noticed the wetlands were disappearing. He decided to do something, so he grabbed some musician buddies and organized the Voice of the Wetlands festival. The first one was in 2004, and it’s still going strong today. Now, It’s almost time for the 15th Annual Voice of the Wetlands Festival. It’ll be on Oct. 12 to 14 at 5407 West Park Avenue in Houma.

The festival is free to attend, and it’ll have blues, jazz, Cajun, rock, and country music on two stages. The musical lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but Tab Benoit, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, and others will take the stage during the three-day event.

There’ll be more than music at this festival that benefits the wetlands. Check out what else you can expect.

Food, Food, and a Little More Food

Cajun food is the best food in the world, hands down, and the people of the bayou are the only ones that know how to make it. Just try to go to Illinois or New York and order gumbo. You will be sorely disappointed. You can enjoy a complete Cajun food experience at the festival. Chow down on some gumbo before you move onto the fried seafood. This is going to be a Cajun food paradise. Wear your big pants. You’re going to need them.

The Crafts

The festival brings out the most talented craftspeople in the region. Painters, builders, carvers, and more converge on the festival to talk to people and sell their items. You already know that the wetlands have some of the most talented creators in the entire country. Now, you can see those creations yourself.

The Camping

It wouldn’t be the Voice of the Wetlands Festival without camping. Sure, you live in Houma and could just drive over, but make it more fun by getting a tent or RV space. This is the only way to get the full experience. Late at night is when the festival really comes to life. Listen to jam sessions, guitar battles, and more after the rest of the festivalgoers have gone home.

This is going to be one epic party, and you do not want to miss it. Make sure you get there without any issues by picking up some new wheels from Barker Buick GMC in Houma, Louisiana. We have just what you’re looking for in a new vehicle, so come by and get it today.
