Time to Train for the United Way’s SOUPer Bowl Cookoff and MVP 5k

SOUPer Bowl Cookoff

SOUPer Bowl Cookoff

Jan. 27 is going to be a big day for foodies and runners in Houma. That’s when the United Way’s SOUPer Bowl Cookoff and MVP 5k will take place. The 5k will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Courtyard Houma, and it’ll be followed up by the SOUPer Bowl Cookoff at 11 a.m.

The 5k is a great way to burn some calories before the main event. Around 30 teams are expected to compete in this year’s cookoff. They’ll make chili, soup, and gumbo, and you can eat as much as you want. If you have a great recipe, you can also participate as one of the cooks. You just might end up winning the best dish in the city.

Get Your Gumbo Training In

If you don’t participate on a team, it’ll be up to you to help choose the winner. You don’t want to go into the cookoff unprepared, so you need to start training for this today. Hit up some local spots, like Boudreau and Thibodeau’s Cajun Cookin’ and The Jambalaya Shoppe, so you can remember what great gumbo tastes like. Then, you can take that training into the main event. You will be able to give some great feedback and help choose the winner.

Of course, if you are participating in the cookoff, this training can also help. You can get some ideas for your own gumbo. You’ll know how much sausage to add and be able to get the spices down just right after you complete your training.

More Than Food

The food might be the main event at the cookoff, but it’s far from the only thing to do. The event also shines when it comes to entertainment for the kids. There will be tons of activities for the kids, so you won’t have to worry about them getting bored while you stuff yourself with gumbo, chili, and soup. In fact, they’ll want to stay the entire time, so you’ll be able to eat as much as you want. See why it’s a good idea to run the 5k beforehand?

This is going to be an action-packed event, and since it’s hosted by the United Way, you know it’s all for a good cause. Your charitable giving will be worthy of a reward, so head over to Barker Buick GMC in Houma, Louisiana, and pick up some new wheels. We have just what you need to put a smile on your face today, tomorrow, and well into the future.
