If you consider yourself a gumbo expert, we have a great event you should go to. You can sample seafood and sausage gumbos and vote for your favorite at the Roux for a Reason gumbo cook-off.
About the Event
The Roux for a Reason gumbo cook-off coming up on March 23. This fundraiser is one of the largest in the area for the prevention of cancer deaths. All proceeds from the event benefit Mary Bird Perkins TGMC Cancer Center and its Early Bird Mobile Medical Clinic. That means the funds go toward the early detection of cancer, saving lives every year. This is the third annual Roux for a Reason gumbo cook-off, and attendees have loved it in the past. Don’t miss out!
This event is going to be so much fun. Head to the Southdown Plantation on March 23. The Roux for a Reason gumbo cook-off will be open to the public at noon. General admission is $15, and you’ll love what you find inside.
First of all, there will be a lot of gumbo. Four-person teams will compete for first, second, and third place, awarded by the judges. Plus, one team will also win the peoples choice award. Last year, more than 50 teams participated. That’s a lot of gumbo to sample.
While you’re tasting and considering who you want to vote for, you can enjoy a live band and lots of kids’ activities. This will be a fun event for the whole family. Kids can play on the inflatables or have their faces painted.
