This Weekend: Prepare for Roux for a Reason and the YMCA Color Run

Color Run

Some of Houma’s favorite events are coming up this weekend. Make sure to mark your calendar, and spend your weekend out and about in your community.

Roux for a Reason

This Houma tradition is back for another year. It takes place on Saturday, March 24 in Downtown Houma. The gumbo cookoff opens to the public at noon. It will feature a live band, family-friendly activities, and kid activities. Admission for the event is $10 per person.

If you’d like to participate in the cookoff, gather a 4-person team and be at the event at 6 a.m. on Saturday for team registration. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place along with a People’s Choice award. Check out the full list of rules and guidelines to make sure your team has everything it needs to win.

Each year 340,000 instances of cancer could be prevented from early detection. That’s the goal of Roux for a Reason. The event is partnering with the Mary Bird Perkins TGMC Cancer Center to donate proceeds toward early cancer screening and detection.

Support this amazing cause, and make plans to enjoy the sites, sounds, and tastes at Houma’s Roux for a Reason.

Bayouland YMCA 5k Color Run

Get colorful at the Bayouland YMCA 5k Color Run this Sunday, March 25. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., and the run starts at 8 a.m. The fee for registering is $45. For more information, call the Bayouland YMCA at 985-873-9622.

Make sure to wear something white, and don’t wear anything you wouldn’t want to get stained. After all, that’s the fun of the Color Run! Volunteers will be stationed all throughout the track to bombard runners with colorful powder. At the end, there will be an aptly-themed celebration for racers. Make sure to take a picture in your color-stained state!
